This document describes new features that have been added to the StuffIt Lite application as well as to other parts of the package. It also provides additional tips and explanations on using StuffIt Lite which are not covered in the User's Guide. The information contained herein serves as a supplement to the StuffIt Lite 3.0 User's Guide.
StuffIt Lite is a sleek, easy to use application that provides compression, encryption, and archiving capabilities. You can use it to compress and combine infrequently used files into archives to free up disk space. Archives can be stored on floppies for backup. For faster transmission, send StuffIt archives to your friends using your modem or over a network. Most electronic bulletin boards ask you to use StuffIt archives so everyone saves money and time when downloading your files. StuffIt Lite can help you create and manipulate StuffIt archives easily and efficiently.
You can now create an archive (or self-extracting archive) which spans multiple disks. This is extremely useful if you need to save an archive to floppies that is too big to fit on a single floppy disk. To make a multi-disk archive, follow the step-by-step procedure below.
How to make a multi-disk archive:
1) Start with a plain StuffIt Lite archive that contains all the compressed files that you wish to save across multiple disks.
2) Open the archive in StuffIt Lite.
3) Make sure that the self-extracting box in the lower-left hand corner of the archive window is NOT checked.
3) Chose “Save As…” from under the File menu in StuffIt Lite.
4) Inside of the "Save As..." Dialog, there will be a "Self Extracting" checkbox. Check that check box if you wish to save the archive as a multi-disk self-extracting archive.
5) Now direct this "Save As…" to the first of the diskettes that you wish to hold your multi-disk archive. When you tell it to "Save" you see the following message: "There is not enough space to save "archivename" in its entirety. Do you wish to save it in segments?" Click OK. When StuffIt Lite has used up the space on the first diskette, you will be prompted for further diskettes until you have completed creating your multi-disk archive.
• Added the ability to create multi-segment self-extracting archives from the "Segment" menu item under the "Translate" Menu.
This allows you to create fixed size segments for your self-extracting archive. Please note that this will place the segments onto your hard disk. If you don't have sufficient hard drive space for all of your segments, you will need to use the "Save As..." procedure outlined above.
• Added a new "Replace" option when stuffing duplicate items.
When you Stuff a file or folder and a file or folder with that name already exists, you are now given the opportunity to have StuffIt Lite either replace the old file or folder with the new one, or stuff a copy of the incoming file.
• Compression Updating
When copying or moving a file from an older archive into a 3.0 archive, you will be given the option of having the file recompressed using the powerful 3.0 compression method to save more space.
• New Apple Events For Automating StuffIt Lite
Registered users of StuffIt Lite can enjoy AppleEvent support. AppleEvents allow scripting programs such as AppleScript or Userland's Frontier to automate common StuffIt Lite operations. Below is a list of the AppleEvents that are supported when StuffIt Lite is registered.
